There’s no question that there is a direct correlation between the quality of our staff and the quality of the experience for the campers. It’s imperative that we hire the best people we can. We conduct an intensive mandatory staff orientation and continue to train the staff vigorously throughout the camp season by incorporating staff evaluations and weekly staff meetings. Staff have an opportunity to earn college credit and exceptional hands-on experience working with us.

Being a counselor at Dream BIG is an empowering job. You live, work, eat, sleep, teach, play, and have fun with kids and your co-workers. It is so true that the more you put into any experience with children, the more you are going to get out of it. This is the mantra at Dream BIG.
The summer season runs 4 sessions for a total of 10 weeks from the end of May – August which includes our staff orientation. Whether you love sports, theater, arts or science, we think that’s great. Whether you are highly skilled in an activity, or just learning, we celebrate every staff member for their own unique gifts that they bring to our community.

Activity Director (AD)
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
- Activity Instruction: Instruct groups of campers in your designated activity area during the eight activity periods of the day, fostering their skills and enthusiasm. Tailor instruction to the groups specific skill levels, with group sizes ranging from 8-18, potentially co-ed in some instances.
- Group Interaction: Greet and instruct groups of approximately 15 campers during each activity period, promoting a positive and safe atmosphere.
- Staff Communication: Oversee and engage staff members, providing clear directions and guidance to ensure their active participation and support in the activity area.
- Curriculum Development: Create a comprehensive and engaging curriculum for your activity area, developing thorough lesson plans that align with the camp’s goals and campers’ skill levels.
- Excitement Generation: Generate enthusiasm and excitement among campers and staff, making the activity area a vibrant and enjoyable space for learning and growth.
- Safety and Skill Enhancement: Ensure the safety of all campers while facilitating activities, focusing on skill development and improvement, while fostering a love for the chosen activity.
Qualifications:
- Extensive teaching or coaching experience in the designated activity area (please refer to the program page for specific activity areas at Dream BIG).
- Passion and creativity in the designated area of expertise, with the ability to inspire and engage campers of varying ages and skill levels.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to create a structured curriculum and develop detailed lesson plans.
- Leadership qualities, with the ability to supervise and guide staff members effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both with children and adults, fostering a positive and safe environment within the activity area.
- Commitment to the safety and well-being of campers, promoting a positive and respectful atmosphere.

Group Leader (GL)
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership: Demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities, guiding and inspiring both campers and staff members within your group.
- Supervision and Group Management: Effectively supervise and manage the group’s activities, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for all participants.
- Administration: Act as the administrative liaison between the group and the head counselors, facilitating smooth communication and coordination of activities and resources.
- Staff Development: Provide mentorship and support to staff members, fostering their professional growth and enhancing their skills in working with children.
- Problem Solving: Address challenges and conflicts within the group promptly and effectively, promoting a positive and respectful atmosphere among campers and staff.
- Energy and Enthusiasm: Bring boundless energy, enthusiasm, and positivity to the camp environment, creating a vibrant atmosphere for campers and staff alike.
- Role Model: Serve as a role model for both campers and staff, exemplifying the values of respect, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with fellow Group Leaders, Group Counselors, and camp management to create a cohesive and supportive camp community.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in leadership and group management, preferably in a camp or similar setting.
- Strong supervisory skills, with the ability to effectively manage and inspire a team of diverse individuals.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both with adults and children.
- Comfortable leading and managing other adults, fostering a positive and inclusive team dynamic.
- High energy level and enthusiasm, with the ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
- Previous experience working in a camp setting is a plus.

Group Counselor (GC)
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Guidance: Supervise a group of boys or girls, aged 4-14, throughout the day, ensuring their safety, well-being, and active participation in camp activities.
- Active Participation: Engage 100% in camp activities, actively leading and participating alongside campers, encouraging their involvement and skill development.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to campers, fostering positive social interactions and emotional growth among the group members
- Safety Monitoring: Monitor campers’ safety during all activities, addressing any concerns promptly and taking necessary precautions to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Role Model: Exemplify positive behavior and attitudes, serving as a role model for campers, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Communication: Maintain open and clear communication with campers, coworkers, and camp management, addressing any issues or concerns promptly and professionally.
- Camp Experience: Contribute to creating a fun, inclusive, and supportive camp environment where campers can learn, grow, and create lasting memories.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a camp or educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children and adults alike.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in the well-being and development of children.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- High energy level, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- Passion for outdoor activities, sports, arts, or other camp-related pursuits is a plus.
